GCSE Geographers visit Crookham Infants - July 2025

Following their unforgettable trip to Iceland, five of our Year 9 GCSE Geography students – Tyler, Luke, Natalia, Imogen and Keira took their learning one step further by delivering an engaging and educational presentation to Year 2 pupils at Crookham Infant School. The visit marked a wonderful example of cross-phase collaboration and community engagement, as the students shared their experiences with younger learners who had just completed their own humanities topic on Iceland.

The presentation brought the dramatic Icelandic landscape to life for the Year 2 pupils, with vivid descriptions of volcanic eruptions, glacial walks, geysers, waterfalls, population and wildlife. The older students used photos, videos, volcanic rocks, and storytelling to explain complex geographical concepts in a way that was accessible and exciting for their young audience.

This initiative offered a wealth of benefits for both groups:

  • Consolidation of Learning: By explaining their experiences and findings, the GCSE students reinforced their own understanding of key geographical themes such as volcanic activity, glacial landscapes, and sustainable tourism.
  • Development of Communication Skills: Adapting complex ideas for a younger audience helped students refine their ability to communicate clearly and effectively—an essential life skill.
  • Cross-Curricular Learning: The activity integrated elements of English (storytelling), Drama (presentation), and PSHE (community engagement), enriching the students’ overall educational experience.
  • Support for Year 2 Pupils: The visit provided real-world context and visual reinforcement for the younger pupils, helping to consolidate their learning in a memorable and meaningful way.
  • Strengthening School Links: The collaboration fostered a sense of connection and mutual respect between different age groups and schools, promoting a culture of shared learning.
  • Celebrating Progression: The visit highlighted the journey of learning from early years through to secondary education, showing younger pupils what lies ahead and encouraging older students to take pride in their achievements.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiasm, maturity, and willingness to share their knowledge. Their presentation not only inspired the next generation of geographers but also demonstrated the power of learning beyond the classroom.

Well done to our fantastic ambassadors and thank you to Crookham Infants for the warm welcome!
