Winter Olympic Multi Skills Event - January 2026
Last Tuesday and Wednesday, we were delighted to host a Winter Olympic–themed Multi‑Skills event at Calthorpe for Years 1 & 2 and Years 3 & 4 pupils from 18 local infant, junior and primary schools.
Across the two days, a total of 180 pupils took part in the event. Our Year 11 students — Daisy, Maia, Erin, Poppy, Paige and Zoe — alongside our Year 10 students, Emilia, Jorja, Isla K, India, Natalia and Kaelee, and supported by our Year 9, 8 and 7 students Olivia, Megan, Adaline, Sophie C, Emilie, Amelie, Darcey, Leah, Bebe, Chloe and Edith, worked incredibly hard to set up, organise, and deliver a wide range of engaging activities.
This School Games event is designed to encourage children to be physically active, with every activity based on a Winter Olympic sport set to feature in the 2026 Winter Olympics in February. To kick things off, our leaders delivered an energetic warm‑up to prepare the children for the challenges ahead. Our students confidently explained and demonstrated each activity, which included Ski Slalom, Ice Hockey Dribble, Kurling, Biathlon, Ski Relay, Ski Jump Challenge, and many more.
All pupils enthusiastically took part, developing key skills such as throwing, catching, running, hopping, jumping, dodging and balancing. Throughout the event, the children showed excellent resilience, determination and teamwork. Our student leaders were exemplary role models, creating a positive, inclusive and fun environment that truly brought the Winter Olympics to life for our visiting pupils.
Following the event, the Headteacher from Cove Infant School emailed to say:
“It was absolutely brilliant and the children really enjoyed themselves. It was very creative, we loved the theme and the effort that went into making all the activities. Your sports leaders were a credit to you and the school too.”
The event was a huge success, and it would not have been possible without the dedication and enthusiasm of our students.
