Model United Nations - October 2025
We hosted the 24th Model United Nations on 15 and 17 October 2025, and welcomed 45 nation delegations to debate a number of significant resolutions put forward by members of the organisation.
On Wednesday 15 October candidates met to discuss their proposed resolutions and to set the agenda for the annual meeting of the MUN on Friday 17 October. This included representatives from Calthorpe Park, Robert Mays and Court Moor schools. Mr John opened the proceedings with a reminder to debate with conviction, collaborate with humility, and above all, lead with purpose. Toby A (Y9) sang “Can’t help falling in love with you” by Elvis Presley, accompanied by Mr Walker on the piano. Sir Jeremy Hunt also sent a personal video message of support to all delegates. Discussions took place to draft resolutions for debate later in the week, while the security team practiced drills to ensure the smooth running of the event.
On Friday the proceedings opened with a performance from our Jazz Ensemble (Andrew N, Mia K, Jasmine K and Sam S) and a keynote speech provided via video from Green Party MP and former Calthorpe Park student, Carla Denyer, before launching into debate of the resolutions that form the agenda of this year's assembly general meeting. These can be seen at this link.
After each resolution had been discussed, debated and considered, the closing ceremony was held, where Isla C sang “I’m not that girl” (from Wicked) before Sir Ranil Jayawardena gave a valedictory address before presenting the awards of Best Delegate. These were awarded to Kris T (Calthorpe Park School) from the Poland delegation and best overall Country Delegation, which was awarded to Russia (Lawrie W, Laith B and Jack W – Calthorpe Park School).
On behalf of everyone involved, we thank all the students for their contributions to the event. We also extend our thanks to this year’s judges – Mr Ben Willcocks, Ms Ros Fisher and Mrs Sue Francis. A huge thank you to all the staff who supported, ensuring the success of this extraordinary event.
