UKMT - May 2025
This term the Junior UKMT club supported students in their preparation for the competition which took place on 1st May. Over 80 students attended each week and we needed to split into two classrooms AND use almost all the chairs from a third one. There was a wonderful buzz in the air as students worked with each other to solve problems aided by the power of a bit of sugar.
It was great to see the enthusiasm for maths and team work as students explored “thinking outside the box” and saw different ways of tackling problems.
Intermediate Kangaroo and Olympiad rounds - We were delighted to be able to congratulate nine students who had gained entry into the follow-on rounds from the Intermediate UKMT competition. The Kangaroo rounds issue invitations to the top 4000 (grey) and 7000 (pink) students in the UK and only 500 students are chosen to take part in each of the Olympiads. This puts these students into the very top achieving category for maths in the UK in their age groups. Congratulations to Alicia, Morgan, Jenson, Alice, Robert, John, Oscar and Xavier for gaining entry to these top competitions. Morgan and Jenson gained a Silver Certificate in the Grey Kangaroo for Year 10 students. Alice gained a Bronze and Nathan a Silver in the Pink Kangaroo for Year 11 students. Oscar gained a Merit in the Cayley Olympiad and Xavier a Distinction putting Xavier in the top 125 students for his year group and Oscar in the top 325 in the UK.
Robert H gained a Bronze medal in the Maclaurin Olympiad putting him in the top 100 students in the UK and John S gained a Gold medal meaning he is in the top 20 students in the UK in Year 11. John and Robert were also presented with books from the UKMT.
We wish our departing Year 11 students the best in their continued Mathematical journeys next year.
