Year 9 DOSE Programme - March 2024

Young people continue to face a mental health crisis exacerbated by the ongoing effects of Covid, the impact of social media and technology alongside the everyday stresses of being a young person. This is something that we feel compelled to challenge at Calthorpe Park School to help support our students become the best versions of themselves, ready for adulthood.

Year 9 have been working with Tj Power on the the DOSE Programme over the last four weeks and have completed a session a week, each week focusing on a different element of wellbeing.

What is the DOSE Programme?

The DOSE programme by Neurify is a Neuroscience backed teaching enabling young people to mentally thrive in the modern word. DOSE stands for Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin and Endorphins. The formula teaches individuals to understand their mental health through rebalancing their brain chemistry and self-regulation. The programme aims to educate about the importance of rebalance by teaching about the science and psychology underpinning each element (DOSE) and the benefits of change.

Dopamine is responsible for motivation and focus.

Oxytocin is responsible for connection, relationships and confidence.

Serotonin is responsible for mood and energy.

Endorphins are responsible for reducing stress levels and promoting good health.

During the final session, Tj challenged Y9 students to build their own DOSE protocol based on their learning over the course and from a choice of 5 “cards”:

Dopamine - Flow, Discipline, Phone Fasting, Cold Water, My Pursuit

Oxytocin - Contribution, Touch , Social Life, Gratitude, Achievements

Serotonin - Sunlight, Gut Health, Deep Sleep, Nature, Underthinking

Endorphins - Stretching, Exercise, Heat, Music, Laughter

The most common choices of DOSE protocol by our Y9 students were :

Dopamine – Taking a cold shower to harness the power of cold water

Oxytocin – Enjoying the benefits of human touch. Hugging 7 times a day can boost oxytocin

Serotonin – Enjoying deep sleep to rebuild energy

Endorphins – Enjoying the soothing effects of music

Finally, parents and teachers were invited to a DOSE session on Monday 18 March to help sustain the effects of the programme. This was very informative and many of our staff have now built their own DOSE protocol.

Have you talked to your child about the DOSE Programme? Have they set their own DOSE protocol? How will they maintain this?
