Sports Day - July 2022

Our first Sports Day for a little while and our last in our current Houses, took place on Wednesday 13th July and what a fabulous and fun day it turned out to be. The weather was glorious and there was lots of laughter and smiles and maximum participation from everyone. The inclusion once again, of the popular Multi Games element of our Sports Day Programme, made the day very successful and inclusive, and was enjoyed by students and staff alike.

The competition was very close going into the Relay Finals in the afternoon, as a result of the excellent levels of participation from all four of our Houses in the Multi Games. The afternoon’s proceedings were opened by Mr Walker and our brilliant Samba Band and there was a flurry of excitement and activity, as all Houses worked to ensure they entered the maximum number of relay teams in each year group. Every team tried their very best to win, supported loudly and enthusiastically by all four Houses.

It was truly fantastic to see everyone working together, to celebrate together as a whole school and to hear the cheers and roars of enjoyment from the crowd, as they encouraged their runners throughout the whole afternoon. We finished the day with two hotly contested and extremely competitive staff relay races, which were thoroughly enjoyed by all, Kilby having the added advantage of a number of PE colleagues in their team and the benefit of a secret training session the night before! The staff relays were very much enjoyed by the whole school and we hope to make them a regular Sports Day feature in the future.

The Physical Education Department would like to thank all of the students and staff involved, without whom we could not have run such a fabulous whole school event. We are so looking forward to Sports Day 2023 with six new Houses to compete for the coveted Calthorpe Park School Sports Day trophy.
