Music visits and trips - Autumn 2017

The Royal Military School of Music

In November, Music students in Years 9 and 10 enjoyed an amazing visit to the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall.   Students were shown around the home of army musicians and learnt about how the army is the main employer of professional musicians in the UK.  Students had the opportunity to see an army band preparing for a series of Christmas concerts and enjoyed a visit to the museum at Kneller Hall, which houses period instruments showing the development of army music through the ages.  Our visit concluded on the army training ground, watching musicians practising marching and playing music.

Wicked, the Musical

GCSE Music students enjoyed an amazing trip to see Wicked the Musical at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London’s West End.  Wicked is the prequel to the Wizard of Oz story and students study the song ‘Defying Gravity’ as part of their learning in Music.

Fleet Festivities

On 29th November, Calthorpe Park’s choir opened the singing at the Fleet Festivities, helping to mark the start of the festive season at the switching on of the Christmas lights.   Our students performed in front of a large audience, and were quickly joined by students from many of the other schools, both primary and secondary, in Fleet.

Christmas Concert

This year’s Christmas Concert took place on Monday, 18th December, with the school’s singers and musicians taking part in this Christmas celebration.

Thank you to the CPSA, who kindly provided refreshments throughout the evening and thank you and well done to our participants for making our annual Christmas Concert such a fabulous event.   Finally, we would like to thank you all for your generous support at this event.
