Inter-House Music Competition - November 2017

interhouse musicSolo singers, small groups, guitarists, pianists, string, wind and percussion musicians, House group choirs, students from Year 7 through to 11, all with musical abilities, each had their turn to present their songs and music pieces during our fantastic Inter-House Music competition this afternoon. Compered by our charismatic Head of Music, Mr Walker, students completed all their rehearsals and scheduling this morning ready for the competition this afternoon in our auditorium.

This afternoon began with Da Vinci House, presenting to a packed (over full?) audience of the other House competitors and groups of students.  The music range was varied. With talent in abundance, some nervous soloists presented their special pieces whilst other items were superbly polished and perfect.  To conclude each House’s set of competitors, the combined resounding sounds of the House Choir pieces were unleashed on stage!

As each House wanted to win, each competitor supported their House and presented their piece. All Houses were supportive of the other Houses’ competitors as they took part.  This House Music event epitomises some of the characteristics which we ‘grow’ at Calthorpe Park. We nurture courage, we enjoy and value achievement and we recognise diversity of ability and talent.

Significant, encouraging enthusiasm was given by each Head of House as it became their turn to compete! Along at the Judges’ Table, the Heads of House and Music staff scored each piece and counted up points during the afternoon.

Overall, just under 200 students took part.  The Judges struggled to agree on the final scores and winners. Well done to all competitors. The final winners were:

Best Performer in:

  • Da Vinci : Elizabeth W
  • Kilby : Ben S and Thomas A
  • Marie Curie : James M
  • Somerville : Kate T

Best Performing House overall :

  • Somerville House (for the second year)
