GCSE Results - August 2017

Well done, Year 11!

Congratulations to all our students for whom the long wait for GCSE results is finally over!

We are delighted with the outcomes they have achieved, especially in the new and more challenging GCSEs in English, English Literature and Maths.

In English, 82.5% achieved the new ‘standard pass’ of grade 9-4, with an amazing 40% of the year group achieving grades 9-7 (equivalent to A*/A). Moreover, a superb 9.4% achieved grade 9 (the highest grade) and the girls, in particular, shone with 46% of them achieving the equivalent of A*/A. In Maths, 79% achieved a standard pass.  A quarter of the year group achieved the highest grades with the boys slightly beating the girls at this measure.

There were also some great results across all areas of the curriculum, together with many notable individual achievements and considerable personal triumphs. There were some exceptional performances with 30% of entries in Maths and English (Language and Literature) coming in at grades 9-7 and 27% of  entries in non-core subjects at A*/A. In 17 subjects, at least 30% of the entry achieved A*/A outcomes.

  • 15 students have achieved at least 2 of the new grade 9 awards
  • In 8 mainstream subjects, at least 90% of the entry has achieved A*-C or equivalent
  • 181 of our current Year 9 sat GCSE Religious Education. Of these, 71% gained a C grade or above. 20% achieved at A*/A
  • Of those who entered FSMQ Additional Maths (1 level above GCSE), 90% achieved   A - C with 70% achieving an A grade (the highest possible grade in this exam).

In terms of exceptional progress, our top 10 students are: Kayla Prinsloo, Hannah Bullock, Rebecca Bullock, Carrie Woollard, Jack Hawkins, Arthur Dixon, Max Grice, Ben Newcombe, Grace Atherton and James Darnell.

In respect of attainment, many students achieved an outstanding collection of 8 or more higher grades; 12 students received grades made up entirely of A*/A  or 9-7. Students who attained particularly highly are: Anna Betteridge, Oliver Bradgate, Laura Clarke, Max Grice (also among our top students for progress), Harry Freeman, Katie Heighes, Dominic Holmes, Ralph Ivey, Ben Knights, Flo Marks, Jack Pollock, Cameron Skingley, Tom Tyler and Imogen Wheway. A special mention must also go to those in our Senior Student Leadership Team, all of whom did exceptionally well alongside making a magnificent wider contribution to the school.

This is a great set of results which again reflect the unstinting dedication of our excellent staff, the support of our parents and, of course, the hard work, commitment and resilience of our students. We are delighted and thank them all.

Finally, we wish all our students who leave us this year every success for the future and we look forward to hearing of your continued progress and achievements over the years to come.
