Sports Day - July 2016

After having to postpone our initial Sports Day, due to a very soft track as a result of inclement weather, Sports Day 2016 went ahead on our reserve date, Wednesday 6th July. The weather was kind to us and as always Calthorpe Park School came together and performed brilliantly in the Tug of War, Athletics and Multi Games competitions. The inclusion of a Multi Games element into our Sports Day Programme made the day very inclusive and was enjoyed once again, by staff and students alike.

The competition was very close going into the athletics event in the afternoon, as a result of an excellent level of participation from all the Houses in the Multi Games and the Heats that took place in Physical Education lessons prior to Sports Day.

A long standing Sports Day record held since 1994 was broken and a number of students came extremely close to breaking even more records. Huge congratulations go to

Abbie R (Y8 D08) - 100m NSDR 12.97

Ultimately, Marie Curie was victorious overall (pushed extremely hard by Somerville once again, runners up for the third year running) and sees their House engraved on the trophy for the third time since the introduction of our House system. Many congratulations and extremely well done to Marie Curie!!

The Physical Education Department have reviewed all of the results and all record breakers listed below along with the following students who will be the proud recipients of our ‘Outstanding Performance Trophy’s in recognition and celebration of their awesome achievement on Sports Day 2016.

Tyrell A (Y7 M08) - 600m

Olivia M (Y7 D02) - 80m

Tyson B (Y8 S11) - 800m

Chester B (Y9 M05) -  200m & 400m

Rachael G (Y9 M07) - High Jump

Ralph I (Y10 S03) - 100m

Rebecca D (Y10 M04) -  800m, 200m & High Jump

The event was very well supported by students and staff and it was lovely to welcome so many parents to spectate, support the competitors and share in the fun of the day.

The Physical Education Department would like to thank ALL the staff involved, without whom we could not have run such a fabulous event. We would especially like to thank Mrs Gibbard for her fantastic ‘fund raising’, the Learning Support Department for running the refreshments and the Site Team for their invaluable help and support in setting up for the day.

Very well done everyone for making the day so fabulously successful once again.

Congratulations to you all and, of course, to our Marie Curie winners.
