Year 10 Geography trips to Reading - June 2025
During the final week of June, our Year 10 GCSE Geography students took part in an exciting and insightful fieldwork investigation to examine how and why the quality of life varies across different areas of Reading. This project is a core element of their GCSE course, offering students the opportunity to apply their classroom learning to real-world environments.
Equipped with their investigation booklets and a strong sense of curiosity, students explored a variety of contrasting locations, from the vibrant town centre to quieter suburban neighbourhoods. Their objective was to gather primary data to better understand the diverse factors that influence quality of life, including housing, land use, traffic flow, and environmental conditions.
Throughout the day, students employed a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods. These included field sketches, land use mapping, environmental quality surveys, and traffic counts. This hands-on approach not only enhanced their understanding of urban geography but also helped them develop essential skills in data collection, analysis, and critical thinking.
Many students reflected on how the experience brought the subject to life and gave them a deeper appreciation for the social and environmental diversity within Reading.
We are extremely proud of the professionalism, enthusiasm, and teamwork demonstrated by all our students. Their findings are now being analysed in the classroom alongside secondary data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD), as they work towards drawing conclusions and completing their evaluations.
Well done, Year 10!
