School Health and Welfare

Our Health and Welfare Officers are available throughout the school day to attend to emergencies requiring first aid.

The Medical room is open to students during break and lunch times. During lessons if a child feels unwell they will need to be given permission by their class teacher to attend the Medical Room.

Students should in the first instance attend the Medical Room and not contact their parents/carers (by phone/text) if they feel unwell in school. The staff in the Medical Room can determine whether they are well enough to return to class or a decision can be made to send the student home. Failure to follow the school procedure will result in a behaviour point being given, unauthorised absence and possible further sanctions from Head of House.

Changes to Medical Condition

If there are any changes to your child’s medical condition either short or long term please update us as soon as possible either by phone on 01252 618175 (where a message can be left) or by email at shwo@cps.hants.sch.uk.

Medication during School Hours

Any medication that is required during school hours then this needs to be brought for safe keeping to the Medical Room and this form completed. No medication with the exceptions of asthma inhalers, diabetic medication and epipens are permitted to be carried by students in their bags.

Crutches in school

If a student needs to use crutches in school then these are required to be provided by hospital and a crutches assessment needs completing on their first day in school with a parent/guardian present. The student must arrive with a parent/guardian to reception when a member of the medical team will complete the assessment.

School Attendance when unwell

If your child is too unwell to attend school, please remember to report all absences via Edulink before 9am on each day of absence. Please see the link (Please insert link) to Frimley Healthier Together website and in particular see the ‘Should my child go to school/nursery today?’ which includes information on illness and also guidance on when your child can attend to school with illness.

You may also find the NHS School Nurse website useful.

Please refer to the medical room leaflet/protocol and attached documents here for further information advising you of the role of the Medical Room and protocols and advice.

COVID – 19 advice

It is not recommended that individuals under 18 are tested for COVID-19 unless directed to by a health professional (see this link).

Individuals should stay off school if they are experiencing a high temperature and are unwell until they no longer have a high temperature and are well enough to attend the setting. Individuals with mild symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, or mild cough who are otherwise well, are allowed to be in school.

Individuals who live with someone who has a positive COVID-19 test should continue to attend school as normal.
