Anti-Bullying Week takes place from Monday 10th until Friday 14th November.  This is a yearly event organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance that raises awareness for bullying, and the ways in which we can all help to reduce bullying in our schools and communities.

This year’s theme is ‘Power for Good’. This invites us to consider the power we have to make a change about bullying – we all can influence each other to be kind, respectful and to speak up when we witness bullying. Each of us can make a difference.

This theme also helps us to think about what power is, how we each have power, and how in some situations, some people have more power than others. Power imbalances can lead to harm. We need to recognise our own power and use it positively rather than negatively.

You are warmly invited to this year’s Christmas Concert, taking place on Wednesday, 10th December at 7pm in the school hall. There will be a variety of musical presentations from the school’s extra-curricular groups and an opportunity to see some of the work students have done during the Summer and Autumn terms. Refreshments will be available during the evening. Tickets can be bought here for £5 each (plus booking fee) which will include two strips of raffle tickets to collect on arrival. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased on the night where our prizes will be on display. In addition to covering the costs associated with this type of event, the monies raised from the concert will be used to support our partner schools in Sri Lanka and enable us to start replacing some of our musical equipment which will help to promote students’ ongoing development in their music lessons. Students who are participating in the concert do not need to purchase a ticket.

Our Sri Lanka Team 2025 returned from Sri Lanka last Sunday, having enjoyed an elephant safari, tea picking, a spice garden, a train ride through paddy fields, and lots of delicious Sri Lankan food. We visited many of our partner schools in Sri Lanka and delivered a wealth of activities to the children there. Thanks to Wednesday Fundraising and many initiatives through the year, which the students organised themselves, the total raised this year exceeded £12,000. This money gave electricity and running to a partner school in Ammankulam, gave music and sound equipment to Urani school in Batticaloa and gave uniform and school bags to children in Chenkallady.

For the first part of the trip we visited temples, plucked tea leaves at a plantation, fed elephants at the elephant orphanage and observed them from a jeep in the wild, and explored historic city of Kandy, the final kingdom before British rule of then Ceylon. During the week of half term, we worked with mainstream students, special needs students, and students who are hearing impaired. Sri Lanka and the warmth of its people has made a huge impression on our students. They have learnt much about themselves and about what it is like to like in a completely different part of the world, with different foods, climate and culture.
