Weekly Update – 30 January

Year 11 GCSE Information Evening for Parents:  This takes place on Tuesday 3 February – see this letter for details and complete the form to book places.

Junior UKMT Challenge Club. for Years 7 and 8, starts on Wednesday 4 February, 3-4pm in X1 until the challenge takes place in April. Students who would like to try problem solving maths and thinking outside the box are welcome to attend. Any questions please talk to a maths teacher or Mrs Powell.

Our student-led Panto, Alice in Wonderland, is taking place on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 February with two performances each day, at 4.30pm and 6.30pm.  Remaining tickets are available here.

Year 8 Valentines Disco: Year 8 students have been invited to this event in support of Ocean Stars.  It takes place on Friday 13 February from 6-7.30pm in the main Hall and is £3 per student.  If your child would like to come, please pay via Scopay by Wednesday 11 February.

Year 10 Business Day – Volunteers needed:  Final call for volunteers who would be able to conduct mock interviews with Year 10 students in the afternoon of 26 February (1.10-3.10pm).  If you are able to help us, please complete this form.  Thank you for your support.

We held our inaugural ‘Inside The Classroom’ event last night where parents became students for a sample of school life.

They had a high octane start with a wonderful House Assembly by the legendary Mr Darmanin, proud Head of Topaz. This was followed by a selection of sessions where they learnt how to: foreshadow creepy events in English;  bisect a line in Maths; measure gravitational pull in Science; make historical interpretations on the lives of commonwealth troops in WW1; identify different river types and the causes of earthquakes in Geography; speak with a perfect Spanish accent in MFL; make Chinese music in Music; debate about human dignity in RE; research dental hygiene and work as a group to distil information in PSHE. And all of this in just 2 hours!

We are grateful to staff who volunteered their evening to teach and parents for supporting us. Watch this space for another chance to experience what it’s like for your children, Inside The Classroom.
