Weekly Update – 17 October 2025

Reminder: we finish for the half-term break next Friday 24 October at 3pm,
returning to school on Monday 3 November

We would like to make you aware of a safeguarding concern involving WhatsApp group chats among students. Some children have been added to large group chats that include individuals outside the school community. In some cases, personal information has been shared without awareness of who else is in the group, and inappropriate content has reportedly circulated.

Please note that WhatsApp has a minimum age requirement of 13, and we encourage all parents to ensure their children are not using the app if they are below this age.

To help keep children safe online, we recommend:

  • Monitoring your child’s social media use, especially group chats
  • Talking to your child about online safety, including the risks of sharing personal information
  • Considering restrictions or removal of access to apps that may pose safeguarding risks.

Thank you for your continued support in promoting a safe digital environment for our students.

This is a reminder to cast your vote in the Parent Governor Election.  Your voice matters, and we encourage all parents and carers to take part in selecting our new parent governors.  Voting closes at 10am on Wednesday 22nd October 2025.  Please follow these instructions carefully:

  1. Each parent/carer must vote separately.
  2. You are entitled to two votes, as there are two vacancies.
  3. You will need to enter your voter number on the  Ballot Form.

SWI have a special offer taking place from 27 October to 9 November, with 20% off all uniform items.

On Wednesday 15th October, we launched our 24th Model United Nations (MUN). 45 country delegations, with representatives from Calthorpe Park, Robert Mays and Court Moor schools, met to discuss their proposed resolutions to set the agenda for the annual meeting of the MUN on Friday 17th October. Mr John opened proceedings with a reminder to debate with conviction, collaborate with humility, and above all, lead with purpose. Toby A (Y9) sang “Can’t help falling in love with you” by Elvis Presley, accompanied by Mr Walker on the piano. Sir Jeremy Hunt also sent a personal video message of support to all delegates participating in this year’s MUN.

The launch this morning opened with a performance from our Jazz Ensemble (Andrew N, Mia K, Jasmine K and Sam S) and a key note speech provided via video from Green Party MP and former Calthorpe Park student, Carla Denyer, before launching into debate of the resolutions that form the agenda of this year’s assembly general meeting.  Further details will appear in the Newsletter issued next Friday.

Our Sri Lanka Team 2025 is about to leave for their long-awaited visit to the island. They have prepared some amazing lessons which they are ready to share with the students in our partner schools, and have raised over £12,000 which has given one of our preschools electricity and running water for the first time. During our visit, we will be seeing elephants, visiting temples, picking tea and seeing all that Sri Lanka has to offer. We will be spending time with our friends in our partner schools and developing the links that other students’ groups have begun.

Last Saturday, seven members of the Maths team travelled to London to attend a Maths Conference hosted by Complete Mathematics. They each attended five lectures during the day. It was a very valuable learning experience and each of them came back with ideas to deliver in the classroom. One highlight was meeting Dr Frost between lectures and having their picture taken with him.

Request from Exams: do you have any spare Reading Pens or Tablets at home that are not being used? It doesn’t matter how old they are, the Exams team would really appreciate any donations.
