Weekly Update – 16 January
Inside the Classroom: We all know that school isn’t the same as when we were there all those years ago. New teaching methods, based on years of educational research, and a wealth of technological changes have meant that the education your children experience is very different from the education you experienced.
We would like to invite you to join us, ‘Inside the Classroom’, where parents will get to experience education as it is taught today. From up-to-date teaching methods to interactive technology, you’ll experience first hand what it’s like to be a student at CPS now and maybe learn a thing or two along the way.
This event will take place on Thursday 29 January, from 6-8pm – please book your free space here.
Maths: Please take time to look at these presentations outlining two of our suggestions as to how your child can see significant and sustained gains in their confidence and progress in Maths with immediate effect. There are currently students in Year 11, who by using the Corbett 5-a-day material, have already exceeded their target by two grades in the November mock exams. Some are on track to increase this even further. Please check in with your child that they are using these and are confident doing so.
Volunteers needed: Thanks to everyone who has signed up to help at our Business Day for Year 10 students on Thursday 26 February 2026. We are still looking for more volunteers who would be able to come in to conduct mock interviews with these students in the afternoon (1.10-3.10pm). If you are able to help us, please complete this form.
Boxing: Mr Frizzell has organised some external Boxing lessons for Y11 students during their PE sessions on Mondays and Thursdays. The cost is £54 for a 6 week block of lessons. Parents of relevant students will be able to sign up via Scopay and should contact Mr Frizzell with any queries.
Languages: We are holding an assembly for our Year 8 students at the end of this month to highlight the importance and benefits of learning a foreign language. Did you study languages at CPS and have gone on to use them? Would you be interested in coming in to talk in the assembly? Alternatively, could you send in a short paragraph about yourself for inclusion in the slides shown? It would be great for our students to hear from our own alumni! Contact Ms Meaden if you can help and thank you in advance.
Macbeth: We will be providing an opportunity for all Year 10 and 11 to watch the most recent film adaptation of ‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’(15 certificate), directed by Joel Coen and starring Denzel Washington in the title role.
Date: Thursday 22 January
Time: 3.15pm – 4.45pm
Location: The Library
Some film viewing snacks will be provided. This sinister adaptation is a great way to further students’ knowledge of ‘the Scottish play’ whilst enjoying a relaxing afternoon of cinema. If your child is interested in attending please email Mrs Wiltshire to confirm their space.
Our student-led Panto, Alice in Wonderland, is taking place on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 February with two performances each day, at 4.30pm and 6.30pm. Further details about booking a place will be sent out soon.
Note from Medical: Can parents please remember to update the school where their children have had a change to their medical condition. This includes any long term conditions or injuries. Please email Medical to provide this update. If a student requires to use crutches in school then a parent needs to arrive with the student on their first day in school on crutches to complete a risk assessment with medical staff.
Also just a reminder that students are not permitted to carry medication in their bags with the exemption of asthma inhalers, diabetic medications and medication for anaphylaxis. This is for the safety of all students. If your child requires medication during the school day they should bring it to Medical at the beginning of the school day for safe keeping.
Lost Property: Classrooms and PE changing rooms were cleared of lost property items during the Christmas break. We have returned named items to students, however, we still have a huge amount of items left to be claimed. These are all un-named and have been neatly stored in an accessible cupboard opposite Food Tech room DT7. Students have been advised to check this cupboard for missing property. It will be kept there until the end of January. Items will then be removed/donated.
We love to hear about any Out of School Success and wonder if any of your young people are taking on new challenges? It could be sport, dancing, karting, music, animals, volunteer work, fundraising, cadets, cheerleading, gymnastics, personal achievements. etc.
The students are not always very forthcoming when it comes to celebrating themselves so we are relying on you to ‘brag’ about your child. To help us organise the responses, rather than replying to an email, please can you complete this form? We will keep it open so whenever you have any news, please share, including any back-dated celebrations too.
