Weekly Update – 12 September 2025

Please see this letter for Year 7 and Year 10 parents from Mr L Jones re the #BeeWell Survey.

See also this letter from senior students regarding the MacMillan Coffee Morning on Friday 26 September.

School photos (Years 7, 9 and 11) take place on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 September – see this link for details.

Early Closure – with our annual Open Evening taking place on Wednesday 24 September, we will be closing early with students leaving after lunch and a brief tutor time at 1.20pm.  Students who need to wait for the bus which runs at its usual time are welcome to wait in the Library.

The latest Clubs list (at lunch time and after school) can be found here.  This link updates regularly as changes are made, so check the page on the website (Students/Clubs) for the latest version.

Whiteboard pens – as you are aware the school has invested heavily in the availability of mini whiteboards across the school; every teaching space has access to a class set. As we have communicated previously, mini whiteboards are a fantastic teaching tool and one we are intending to use widely. On this note, we have added a wipe clean, non permanent, whiteboard pen to our equipment list. Please can you ensure that your child[ren] has at least one mini whiteboard pen with them and that it is not a permanent marker (no Sharpies please). These are readily available from Amazon and stationery shops. Your support, as always, is much appreciated..

Careers Fair: Open query to Parents and local businesses – if there are any parents who work for a business that could offer advice for school leavers, possibly a route for qualifications or apprenticeships, and are free to attend as a stallholder at our Careers Fair on 30 September, please complete this form.   Invitations and booking links for Year 10 and Year 11 students are being sent out imminently by Ms Wayman.

College Open Events for Year 11 students – the updated list can be found here.  This is a busy term so check the college websites for details of booking places in advance if required.  There are two clashes with events happening here as follows:

  • Our Open Evening is on Wednesday 24 September when many Year 11 students will be needed in school – we ask that you visit QMC on their second date of Thursday 25 September
  • Our Careers Fair for Year 11 is on Tuesday 30 September so we ask that when booking to visit Farnborough 6th Form, you opt for Wednesday 1 or Thursday 2 October.

Hampshire Swimming Relay Championships – This years competition is on Thursday 2 October with the following age group categories:
Year 7&8
Year 9&10
Year 11-13
If any student, currently swimming at club level or with the ability to swim at this level, is interested in competing as part of a team of 4, please contact Mr Jones in PE.

The Science Department are looking for unwanted toy cars (Matchbox type) to use in physics lessons. If you have any that your children no longer want we would love to receive them. Please drop car donations off at school reception during school opening hours. Thank you for your support.

We love to hear about any Out of School Success. We had some fabulous entries last year and would love to hear a lot more this year. Having just returned from Summer Break, I wonder if any of your Young People took on any new challenges recently? It could be Sport, Dancing, Karting, Music, Animals, Volunteer work, Fundraising, Cadets, Cheerleading, Gymnastics, Personal Achievements ….. The students are not always very forthcoming when it comes to celebrating themselves so we are relying on you to ‘brag’ about your child. To help us organise the responses, rather than replying to an email, please can you complete this form. We will keep it open so whenever you have any news, please share. And please share any back-dated celebrations too.
Thank you, The Calthorpe Head of House Team
