We Will Rock You – 7-11 July
From Mrs Shackell: We Will Rock You is a show that will stay with the whole Company long after the last curtain call. The commitment and enthusiasm of the students, staff and our amazing Dream Team made producing this show an absolute joy to make and watch. A bright, bright star definitely guided us all and I am incredibly proud of what the students and the production team have achieved. We Will Rock You also created a little piece of Calthorpe Park history with our first ever matinee performance meaning that our students were able to perform an impressive six shows during our run, showcasing their unwavering commitment and their love of performing the show with a wider audience.
Taking on a show packed with some of the most iconic songs ever written is no small task. Queen’s music demands energy, commitment, and courage from every performer, and our cast and musicians have risen to that challenge with remarkable enthusiasm. Whether mastering powerful vocal numbers, learning dynamic choreography, working with click track or bringing this futuristic world to life on stage, the Company have approached every rehearsal with determination and positivity.
One of the greatest joys of directing this production has been watching our students grow in confidence and creativity. Their willingness to take risks, support one another, and fully commit to the storytelling has transformed this show into something truly special. The friendships formed, memories made, and lessons learned along the way are every bit as important as the content performed on the stage. The Company definitely rocked with all their hearts over those six performances, and I know the audience enjoyed it just as much as they did!
From Mr Walker: The Music Department was delighted to form an 18-piece band of staff and student musicians to provide the musical accompaniment to our show, We Will Rock You. The upbeat score is full of memorable and varied songs, known the world over, which we enjoyed preparing and rehearsing to perform at our run of shows last week. We admired the most beautiful singing, amazing acting and sublime playing, culminating in a final night we will all remember. Everyone involved in We Will Rock You gave their all to make such a memorable run of shows.
From Mr John: To our incredible cast, thank you for your talent, commitment and courage. You have entertained us, moved us and reminded us of what can be achieved when young people are given the opportunity to shine.
To our musicians, technicians, choreographers, costume team and all the staff who have worked behind the scenes, thank you. Productions like this don’t happen by magic, they happen because of countless hours of hard work, creativity and dedication.
Thank you also to our parents, families and friends for your support, encouragement and enthusiasm throughout the journey.
To everyone who came to watch the show last week – thank you for being part of this special occasion and for supporting the performing arts in our school.
We Will Rock You is, at its heart, a story about finding your voice and having the confidence to use it. Over the six performances, our students have certainly done that. They have shown us that when talent, teamwork and determination come together, they can truly “rock” a theatre.
Mrs Shackell, another phenomenal production harnessing the talents of our students so each one could shine. Mr Walker, thank you for your leadership of our talented musicians in the supporting orchestra.
