Seasonal Guidance
Staying hydrated and eating regularly is essential for staying healthy and focussed during school. Students must always bring a water bottle into school to ensure they stay hydrated during the school day. Refill stations are available in school.
Medical Status Change
Any changes to a student’s medical condition should always be reported to the School Health & Welfare Officers either by phone on 01252 618175 (where a message can be left) or by email at shwo@cps.hants.sch.uk This includes short-term/temporary changes and long-term considerations.
Health and Welfare Procedure

Non-Emergency
Our Health and Welfare Officers are available to students for non-emergency support during break and lunch times. They are also on call throughout the school day to attend any emergencies requiring first aid.
Ill in Class
If a child feels unwell during lessons, they will require permission from their class teacher to attend Health & Welfare Room.
Notifying Home
Students who feel unwell in school must attend and notify the Health & Welfare Room in the first instance. They are not permitted to and should not attempt to phone or text home. The School Health & Welfare Officer (SHWO) can determine whether a student is well enough to return to class. If not, the SHWO can make a decision to send the student home. In line with the school phone policy students are not permitted to use their phone whilst in the Health and Welfare room.

Students requiring medical intervention / potential intervention or daily support

If a student needs to use crutches in school then these are required to be provided by hospital and a crutches assessment needs completing on their first day in school with a parent/guardian present. The student must arrive with a parent/guardian to reception when a member of the Health and Welfare team will complete the assessment.
If your child has a food allergy, please provide written confirmation of the allergy from their medical professional, along with any treatment required. Parents should also complete an allergy action plan and return this to school, along with written confirmation of their allergy from a medical professional. You can find information about allergens in the school canteen on our Catering page.
Students should carry their own allergy medication with them if required.

If your child has asthma, or if they have been prescribed an inhaler, please complete the Emergency Salbutamol consent form. This will allow them to receive Salbutamol from an emergency inhaler held by the school should their inhaler be unavailable or unusable. Please note, this is only available whilst on the school premises. Students should carry their own spare inhaler on all school trips or visits. Parents should also provide school with a copy of their child’s ‘Asthma Action Plan’. This form should be completed by a medical professional (asthma nurse or GP). Please note, students with inhalers should always have a working, in-date inhaler, clearly labelled with their name, with them at all times.
If a student has been prescribed an auto-injector for an allergy, parents should supply the school with a copy of their child’s ‘Allergy Action Plan’ . If a student does not have a plan this should be requested from their medical professional. Blank copies are available from the following website: https://www.bsaci.org
Please note, students should always carry 2 auto-injectors and antihistamines with them.

Students with Diabetes should attend Health & Welfare Room at least lunchtime to provide their blood glucose reading and insulin dose to the Health and Welfare team. They are also welcome to keep snacks in the Health and Welfare Room and also any spares they may need to keep in case of emergencies.
The school must be notified of any medication that is required during school hours using this form . This medication must also be handed to a SHWO for safe keeping in Health & Welfare Room. No medication with the exceptions of asthma inhalers, diabetic medication and EpiPens are permitted to be carried by students in their bags. Also please note that antihistamines/hayfever medication is not stocked in school so needs to be provided from home if required.

Vaccinations
Vaccinations are offered in school by the School Immunisation Team (contact details below). When a vaccination is due, parents are sent a consent form via email. It is essential that this is completed with either a yes or as no as Year 10 and 11 students are invited to consent for their own vaccinations where parents have not completed the consent forms. Reminder emails will be sent to those who have not completed the consent form.
