Behaviour

At our school, we believe that positive behaviour is the foundation of a thriving, learning community. We are committed to recognising and rewarding students who behave well and are committed to their learning. The Calthorpe Way demonstrates the positive attributes and behaviours we actively encourage through our reward system.  When students’ behaviour falls short of our expectations we use a range of sanctions and interventions outlined in our Behaviour Policy (see the link on this page).

Reward Ladder – AP stages and recognition

A well-designed reward framework in schools is recognised as a powerful and positive way to motivate students by celebrating effort, progress, and positive choices, not just outcomes. When students feel that their hard work and good character are noticed and valued, they are more likely to stay engaged, take pride in their learning, and challenge themselves to grow.

Our Reward Ladder changes annually, going beyond prizes or points; it reinforces shared values and builds a culture where success is celebrated in many forms. This directly supports our school vision to inspire minds by encouraging curiosity and perseverance, shape characters by promoting responsibility, kindness, and resilience, and nurture futures by helping students develop the confidence and motivation they need to thrive both in school and beyond.

Disruption-free Learning

Calthorpe Park School is committed to the very highest standards of behaviour. At the heart of our behaviour system is a pledge to all students, their parents/carers, and to our staff that classrooms will be disruption free learning environments (DFL). We believe that every teacher deserves to teach, and every student deserves to study, in an environment that is calm and purposeful.  We are therefore not prepared to allow any student to disrupt the learning experience for others.

We strongly believe that all students have the best opportunity to learn and develop if expectations are high, yet simple and consistent. We therefore apply the same centralised system across the whole school, for both Key Stage 3 and 4.

See the Behaviour Management policy on this page, in particular Appendix 1 which outlines our DFL arrangements.

Anti-Bullying

It is vital to us that every student feels safe, respected and valued. Bullying in any form goes against the core principles of the Calthorpe Way and will never be tolerated. Through our Character Education Programme we work proactively to educate students about kindness, empathy and the impact of their actions, while providing clear systems for reporting concerns and accessing support. Where bullying has occurred we implement robust sanctions. By fostering a culture where students look out for one another and speak up when something isn’t right, we aim to create a community in which everyone can learn and grow with confidence.

If you are a parent who has concerns that bullying is taking place, either towards your own child or another, please contact your child’s tutor in the first instance so that this can be investigated urgently.

See our Anti-Bullying policy under the Policies and Procedures page.
