Safeguarding Alert – Omoggle

⚠️ Parent Alert: Omoggle

A website called Omoggle and a trend known as ‘mogging’ or ‘looksmaxxing’ is gaining attention among young people, and it raises some serious safeguarding concerns.

It connects users through random live video calls and even rates people based on appearance — creating a high-risk environment for children and teenagers.

🚨 Why this is concerning:

  • Strangers on camera – Children can be matched with anyone. There are no meaningful age checks, and this creates a real risk of grooming, exploitation, and exposure to inappropriate behaviour.
  • Damage to confidence & self-worth – Users are judged and scored on how they look. For young people still developing their identity, this can seriously impact self-esteem and body image.
  • Exposure to harmful online culture – Language used on the platform is linked to toxic online communities that can promote misogyny, unhealthy attitudes, and poor mental wellbeing.
  • Privacy risks – Facial scanning, tracking, and the ease of screen recording mean your child’s image could be captured and shared without their knowledge or consent.

👉 Overall:

This platform combines live stranger interaction, appearance-based judgement, and weak safeguards — making it unsuitable for children and teenagers.

💬 What parents can do:

  • Talk openly about the risks of speaking to strangers online
  • Reinforce expectations around privacy and behaviour
  • Keep devices in shared spaces where possible
  • Use parental controls
  • Encourage your child to speak up if something feels wrong

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Ongoing conversations and awareness are key to keeping young people safe online.
