Governors

The Government requires a Governing Body to oversee the leadership of schools like Calthorpe Park.  We are responsible for appointing the Headteacher, as well as holding them to account for how the school is run.

What is the Governing Body?

The Governing Body at Calthorpe Park School is made up of volunteers from the local community, bringing together a wide range of professional expertise to support the school’s long-term success. Our board is made up of Parent, Staff, and Co-opted Governors, all of whom share a commitment to the school’s belief in educating the whole child, for the whole of their life through heart, mind, body and spirit.

By working as a supportive partner, we aim to help Calthorpe Park School equip our students with the wisdom, resilience, and character they need for the whole of their lives.

What does the Governing Body do?

While the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team are responsible for the day-to-day running of the school, the Governors provide the strategic framework, overseeing the long-term vision and ensuring the school stays true to its core values.  Over the last year we have developed our new school vision and values, and a refreshed Calthorpe Way, which set our culture as a school, and are the common threads which are woven through every aspect of the school’s life.

We see our role as providing both high-level challenge and dedicated support to ensure the school remains a place where every young person is valued equally and unconditionally.

The Governing Body meets throughout the year and receives reports from the Headteacher and other senior staff on the performance of the school, the challenges the school faces, and seek to provide support and constructive challenge.

How does the Governing body do it’s work?

The FGB is the Full Governing Body which meets together throughout the year, but it provides additional governance and oversight through its four Committees.

The Finance Committee
Ensures rigorous oversight of the budget and resources, ensuring that every penny is used effectively to create a purposeful learning environment and to sustain the long-term health of our school community.

The Curriculum and Outcomes Committee
Monitors the quality of teaching and the breadth of the curriculum. We challenge the school to maintain high academic standards and educate our students to aspire for themselves and inspire others in their achievement, approach and attitude.

The Pastoral Development Committee
Oversees the wellbeing and personal growth of our young people. We ensure the school remains a place where students are cared for unconditionally, helping them develop the resilience, kindness, and confidence they need for life beyond the classroom.

The Leadership, People and Culture Committee
Rcognises that a flourishing school requires a supported and inspired staff. This committee focuses on the culture of our school community—ensuring that our teachers and support teams have the professional environment they need to model growth mindsets and to inspire students through their own attitude and approach.

How do Governors get involved in school life?

All our Governors are passionate about our school and we are involved in many ways beyond the board room table.  Governors regularly visit school and meet with staff and students, to hear directly from them, and see the work of the school first hand.  We also are present at school events, concerts, sports days and other important moments in the school’s life, to celebrate the hard work of our staff, and the achievements of our students.

Can I be a Governor of Calthorpe Park School?

We are always open to hearing from people who are as passionate about the school as we are, and if you would like more information please contact clerktothegovernors@cps.hants.sch.uk

Introducing the School Governors

It may seem that the school Governing Body is a mysterious group who live in the shadows. The reality is that we are mixed group of people from different backgrounds who share one common interest, ensuring that the school is being managed in a manner that ensures the best learning environment for our students.

As you’ll see from the brief biographies below, we are a mix of parents and ex-parents of Calthorpe Park students and so all have a vested interest in ensuring that we deliver the best experience for our children.
