Hampshire Book Awards – 30 June

We celebrated reading on Tuesday 30th June, as we hosted the Hampshire Book Award. We welcomed eight schools from our local area and the hall buzzed with book chat. Our participating Year 8 students, who had been busy reading the four shortlisted books and attending our lunchtimes meetings to discuss them, now had the opportunity to mix with the many other students and share their views. Finally, a vote took place across Hampshire to decide on their favourite. The worthy winner was announced – ‘My Name is Samim’ by Fidan Meikle. A touching story about a boy’s harrowing journey from Afghanistan – what a great choice.
