Weekly Update – 6 March

We had a brilliant World Book Day yesterday. A range of reading related activities went on both in the build up to the day and on the day itself such as our ‘Who’s Behind the Book’ competition, WBD library lessons, staff reading book beginnings in lessons, tutor ‘Book Tiles’ and, of course, the book tokens and free books. We will continue to have a range of the free £1 books available here in the library over the next couple of weeks. Finally, our sporting CPS staff, joined in as some book characters to add to the fun.

Thank you to all those parents and students who attended the Year 8 Options Evening last night.  It was really good to see so many people face to face at a school event. We hope you found it useful in advance of making a final decision with your child/ren regarding their options subjects – see this page for the book, presentation and a reminder of dates.

Our Lockdown Drill went really well this morning, testing our procedures during tutor time.  We will do a full test of this later in the term and will be in contact with you in advance of this.

Spring Review on 25 March: Tickets for this music concert are now available here.

Easter Egg Appeal: Having run this appeal successfully last year, we are now launching this year’s Easter Egg collection.  Eggs can be brought into Reception or students can take to their form rooms.  The deadline is Tuesday 24 March when eggs will be donated to the Hart Food Bank.

Donations will be measured by total weight to ensure fairness, with the House who donates the largest mass of eggs winning the competition.  For comparison, 326 eggs were donated last year weighing 42kg – can these amounts be beaten this year?

Thanks for your support with this appeal!

Film Club:  We will be screening the film adaptation of the novel Divergent. If your child enjoys dystopian fiction/films such as the Hunger Games trilogy, then this is one for them!

Date: 19 March
Location: Library
Timings: 3.15pm until 5.30pm (film running time 2 hours 13 mins)

Some film viewing snacks will be provided. To confirm your child would like to attend, please email Mrs Wiltshire

PE Sponsorship: We are looking for £400 sponsorship for our Sports Awards evening in June, to cover new awards, engraving and decorations.  We can offer a page in the programme if necessary/required. Please contact Mr Barclay in PE if you can help or have questions.

See our Community Notices page for information on days out for service families, a Family counselling service and HCC work on local footpaths over the next few months.

Can you help the PTA with their website?  The newly reformed Calthorpe Park School PTA is off to a flying start! Following our fantastic (and delicious) Curry & Quiz night in January, we are hard at work planning an exciting schedule of events for the coming months. To keep our community connected, we’ve reached our next big milestone: we need a website. We already have the domain, but we are looking for a talented volunteer to help us build the content and bring it to life.

If you have web design or development skills and could donate some time to this worthy cause, we would love to hear from you. Everything we do goes directly toward benefiting your children and the school community. Please reach out to us at chair@cpspta.co.uk if you can help!
