WHAT TO EXPECT
Students will have the opportunity to engage with five of Britainโs leading scientists, selected for their ability to communicate science in an exciting and accessible way. The event aims to:
- Boost enthusiasm for science among GCSE pupils.
- Improve GCSE Science results with expert exam tips from a chief examiner.
- Inspire future study of science at AS and A2 levels.
- Show how science addresses global challenges.
- Offer a dynamic, thought-provoking experience with opportunities for student interaction.
Each student will receive a comprehensive booklet featuring:
- Profiles of the scientists
- Lecture summaries
- Articles on science careers and study
- Examiner advice for exam success
The scientists who are scheduled to speak at this event are (subject to change):
- Professor Lord Robert Winston – medical doctor, distinguished scientist, particularly in the area of human fertility. He has the gift of being able to communicate in a most engaging way.
- Professor Andrea Sella – if ever there was a perfect chemistry lecture this is it. Not only does he speak beautifully about chemical processes, he uses chemicals on the stage to illustrate his ideas.
- Professor Jim Al-Khalili – his documentaries include Order and Disorder, Everything and Nothing, Chemistry: A Volatile History and Atom on the BBC and appeared in Channel 4โs Genius of Britain.
- Doctor Helen Czerski – physicist, oceanographer and broadcaster, based at University College London and is a presenter for the BBC.
- Doctor Hannah Critchlow – why are neuroscientists only able to properly probe consciousness now? And what are we yet to discover? Neuroscientist and author will take you on a voyage of conscious discovery.
