Some awarding bodies also offer a free ‘Priority Access to Scripts’ Service. Please bear in mind that grades can go up as well as down, should these services be accessed.

Review of Marking
Deadline: Monday 13th April
This is a post-results review of the original marking to ensure that the agreed mark scheme has been applied correctly. It is not a re-marking of the student’s examination paper. The awarding body will have trained its reviewers to conduct reviews of marking accurately and consistently.
This service will include:
- a clerical re-check
- a review of marking as described above
It is always advisable to get a copy first (ACCESS TO SCRIPTS) as reviews rarely result in an improved overall grade and sometimes result in lower marks. Do also check the grade boundaries as it is rare for marks to go up by more than 2 or 3.
If you wish to go ahead with this service, you will need the paper codes (not the specifcation code) – these were on the Component Results sheet that you were given when you collected your results.
Please see our Frequently Asked Questions below for more information.
If you have any queries, please email the Exams Team – please note the school will not be open until Wednesday 3rd September.

Review of Marking FAQ’s
What is Review of Marking?
A Review of Marking is a check of the original marking. The reviewer will check that the exam script has been accurately and consistently marked and will only act to correct any errors identified in the original marking.
Is a Review of Marking a re-mark?
No, reviewers will not re-mark the exam script.. Marks may however be adjusted if errors are found to have been made.
How can I work out whether I should ask for a Review of Marking?
You can use the Grade Boundaries published on the exam board websites to help you. Generally, remarks are only worth applying for if you are within a couple of marks of a grade boundary. However, if your result is drastically different from what you expected, please seek advice from subject staff and consider a remark. Sometimes errors do occur.
Who can request a review of Marking?
Requests must come from the Candidate. We cannot accept requests from other family members or teachers without the candidate’s consent. By completing the online form and paying exam board fee, you are giving us your consent.
Should I tell my 6th form or college that I have requested a Review of Marking?
The awarding bodies strongly advise candidates to inform their university or college choices that a review of results has been requested. By informing them, they may be able to keep the candidate’s place open until the review has been completed.
How long will a Review of Marking take?
The awarding bodies have 20 calendar days to make the review after receiving the request. Due to high volumes of post-results requests, it may take the school a little longer to forward your result to you.
How likely is it that my Grade will go up?
It is possible that your grade will improve but often grades do not change. The review of marking can highlight areas where the original marker was too harsh, or too generous. This means Candidates need to be aware of the possibility that marks can go up, stay the same, or go down. In reality, downward revisions are highly unusual.
How much does a Review of Marking cost?
The awarding bodies charge different fees for their post -results services. Review of Marking fees for the June 2025 exams are as follows:
- AQA – £43.50
- OCR – £65.25
- Pearson – £50.00
- WJEC – £43.00
Charges are per exam script (i.e. per paper/component) and not per subject. If the review of marking leads to an overall subject grade change, then the exam boards will not charge for it and we will refund you.
If you have any queries, please email the Exams Team.
