A Fantastic Year of Mathematical Success

This year has been a fantastic one for our Year 7 and Year 8 mathematicians, who have achieved outstanding results in the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) competitions.

The Junior Mathematical Challenge (JMC) is designed to encourage students to think creatively and apply their mathematical knowledge to a range of challenging problems. Thousands of gifted mathematical students from across the country take part each year, making our students’ achievements all the more impressive.

We are delighted to report that our students earned an incredible 118 certificates, including:

32 Gold Certificates
34 Silver Certificates
52 Bronze Certificates

Even more impressively, 68% of our entrants received an award, well above the national average of 50%. This is a tremendous achievement and reflects the enthusiasm, hard work and problem-solving skills of our students.

Thanks to their excellent performances in the Junior Mathematical Challenge, 22 students qualified for the Junior Kangaroo, an invitation-only follow-on competition open to the top 10,000 students nationally. Our students continued their success in this more demanding round, with Charles, Jacob and Ashley gaining Gold , Marvin, Matilda, Oscar, Thomas F, Thomas M, Nicolas and Dex achieving Silver and Jan, George B, Charlotte, Isabella, Elsie, George P and James scooping a Bronze.

These results are a wonderful testament to the talent and determination of our young mathematicians.

We were also thrilled that Thalia qualified for the Junior Mathematical Olympiad, a prestigious competition reserved for the top 1,000 students in the UK. Reaching this stage is an exceptional accomplishment and places her amongst the country’s most able young mathematicians.

While certificates and awards are certainly worth celebrating, these competitions also help students develop valuable skills such as logical reasoning, perseverance and confidence. It has been wonderful to see so many students embracing the challenge and discovering just how enjoyable mathematics can be. UKMT maths club was buzzing with over 85 students every week, working in groups and helping each other.
