School Games Event - December 2023

SG 2

Lynden H, Elliott H, Amy J, Layla P, Orla S, and Evan S, our Year 10 Vice Captains, assisted in organising and running numerous multi-skilled activities for our local primary school children in Years 3 and 4 at Aldershot Tennis Centre on Thursday 14 December. This was a School Games Event designed to encourage children to be physically active. Every activity had a Christmas theme and included a variety of fundamental movement skills.

The children arrived at 12pm to have lunch with a special visitor. The Vice Captains helped Santa deliver the Christmas crackers to the children. To get our event started, Santa played a game of ‘Santa Says’. Following some more warm up games, the children were taken to the various activities to complete. Our Vice Captains explained and demonstrated the activities along with some Y6 sports leaders from Velmead Primary. There was Santa Dash, Snowball Run, Santa vs The Grinch, Elf Kurling, Santa’s Obstacle Course, Throw to the North Pole and many more. All the children took part in the activities, practising skills such as throwing, catching, running, hopping, jumping, dodging and many more. The children displayed great resilience, determination and fantastic teamwork skills. Not only did our Vice Captains serve as excellent role models and leaders for the children participating in the activities, but they also trained and assisted the Velmead Y6 sports leaders.

The event was a huge success and I could not have done it without them.
